Purchase Lean and Natural Grass Fed Beef
Grass fed beef has numerous health benefits over store bought, grain fed beef. According to the Mayo Clinic 1 the benefits are:
Lower total fat content
More heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids
More omega-6 fatty acid (linolenic acid)
More antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E
WebMD concludes 2: "Grass-fed beef has significantly lower levels of saturated fat compared to grain-fed beef. In fact, the fat content of grass-fed beef can be compared to skinless chicken. Replacing saturated fat in grain-fed beef with the unsaturated fat in grass-fed beef has been proven to reduce your risk of heart diseases."
We raise cattle to manage range land and periodically sell off half or whole steers direct to consumers. We take the cattle to the processor, you tell the processor how you want your beef butchered, what cuts you want and the sizes. Then you pick up when the processing is complete.
We sell by total on the hoof weight, just like you had purchased it at the cattle barn. After the steer is caped and cleaned, there is typically 600 pounds of beef. You'll need a 23-cubic foot freezer or larger to store the meat from a whole steer.
Details:
When we have 1-year old or more steer we'll schedule time at the processor and notify you. You pay a $100 deposit at that time.
Fill out the cut sheet with the processor, telling the processor how you want your meat butchered or portioned. .
We take the steer to the processor at the scheduled time.
The processor capes and cleans the beef and determines the hanging weight. You pay us the per pound price of hanging weight at that time, less your deposit of course.
The processor ages and butchers the beef, typically 14 to 21-days.
You pick up and pay the processor for their work.
